US Federal Appeals Court Hears Challenge To FBI’s Withholding of Communications with Banks Regarding January 6 Disturbance

Government watchdog report finds FBI, Capitol Police identified but didn't share "credible threats" before Jan. 6.

Washington DC, March 14 (DP.net).– A court hearing was held in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit on Friday, March 10, 2023, in the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for records of communication between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and several financial institutions about the reported transfer of financial transactions made by people in DC, Maryland and Virginia on January 5 and January 6, 2021.

The appeal was heard by a three-judge panel: Circuit Judge Wilkins, and Senior Circuit Judges Rogers and Tatel. An audio of this morning’s hearing can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/live/Hfa6qg4SEyA.

Judicial Watch logoJudicial Watch filed its appeal in November 2022, challenging a U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia decision allowing the FBI to withhold records of communication between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and several financial institutions about the reported transfer of the financial transaction records.

Judicial Watch asked for:

All records of communication between the FBI and any financial institution, including but not limited to Bank of America, Citibank, Chase Manhattan Bank, Discover, and/or American Express, in which the FBI sought transaction data for those financial institutions’ debit and credit card account holders who made purchases in Washington, DC, Maryland and/or Virginia on January 5, 2021, and/or January 6, 2021.

Amsterdam, March 12.– Approximately 3 thousand people gathered with the organization of the group called “Extinction Rebellion”, closed the last part of the A12, which is the entrance of the city, causing traffic disruption on the connection routes.

The demonstrators, who demanded an end to the use of oil, coal and gas, criticized the government’s fossil fuel policy.

Pedro Castillo: Prosecutor's Office requests 36 months of preventive detention

  • The Supreme Prosecutor Uriel Teran presented the requirement against Pedro Castillo before the Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checley Soria.
  • The measure also falls on former ministers Juan Silva and Geiner Alvarado.

Pedro CastilloLima, Mar.1.– The National Prosecutor's Office requested 36 months of preventive detention against Pedro Castillo for allegedly leading a criminal organization in the modality of aggravated collusion and influence peddling. The initiative also falls to former ministers Juan Silva (Transportation and Communications) and Geiner Alvarado (Housing).

The Supreme Prosecutor Uriel Teran presented the request before the Supreme Court of Justice, after the Prosecutor's Office formalized the investigation against the former president on Tuesday, February 21.

European Court joins inter-State case concerning Russian military operations in Ukraine to inter-State case concerning eastern Ukraine and downing of flight MH17

On 17 February 2023 the Grand Chamber decided to join inter-State application Ukraine v. Russia (X) (application no. 11055/22) to the inter-State applications in Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia (application nos. 8019/16, 43800/14 and 28525/20), which was already pending before it and which was declared partially admissible on 30 November 2022 in a decision that was delivered on 25 January 2023: see press release.

The joined case will be referred to as Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia (nos. 8019/16, 43800/14, 28525/20, and 11055/22).

This decision was taken in accordance with Rules 42 § 1 and 71 § 1 of the Rules of Court in the interests of the efficient administration of justice. The Court will shortly fix the future procedure in the case.

Estonia's Prime Minister Kaja Kallas believes her country's defense "starts from Ukraine" while the battle of Bahmut rages

Tallinn, Feb.23.– Estonia's defence "starts from Ukraine ... We see clearly that our defence right now starts also from Ukraine because Ukraine is fighting with the same threat... So as long as they are fighting there, they are weakening the same enemy as we have," said PM Kaja Kallas.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden says the US will defend 'every inch of NATO' - as Moscow welcomes China's help in 'resolving' the Ukraine war. The US president met leaders from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, the nine countries in the most eastern parts of the NATO alliance. These countries have expressed concerns that Mr. Putin could launch military action against them next if he is successful in Ukraine.
