Support the Tibetans' struggle for recognition of their rights and traditions

Written by Democracia Participativa on 20 July 2026. Posted in Organizaciones / Campaigns.

The International Campaign for Tibet is an organization advocating for a peaceful understanding with China to grant a degree of autonomy that would allow Tibetans in Tibet to preserve their culture and traditions. It supports the Dalai Lama in his struggle to achieve a civilized relationship with China.

ICT

On July 2, a Tibetan activist self-immolated outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Washington DC, July 20 (DPnet).— Last week, an activist named Lobsang Palden, aka Lobga Rangzen, shared a video message on Facebook. He warned that China’s snatching away of Tibetan independence is the root cause of its policies in Tibet that threaten the very survival of Tibetan identity, language and culture. He appealed to Tibetans in exile to remain united in their struggle, reminding them of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s call for Tibetans around the world to be the voice for those who cannot speak out.

The timing of that video is important, as it would be his last. On July 2, Lobsang Palden self-immolated outside the United Nations Headquarters — dressed in traditional Tibetan clothes with a Tibetan flag hoisted high beside him. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and died that evening.

Participatory Democracy Cultural Initiative and its subsidiary DemocraciaParticipativa.net deeply mourn his passing, alongside his family, friends and the wider Tibetan community. He was a tireless advocate who peacefully and fiercely devoted himself to the Tibetan cause.

US Companies Profit from China’s Surveillance State: Stand with ICT to Call Them Out

Written by Tencho Gyatso, ICT on 06 October 2025. Posted in Organizaciones / Campaigns.

Tibet in AsiaImagine living in a place where cameras watch your every move. Where everything you say on social media, your texts, your purchases are all monitored by the government. All of this is factored into a social credit system that scores you as a “troublemaker,” which enables the government to track you, stop you from traveling, detain or attack you at a moment’s notice.

This is the surveillance state that China has made in Tibet, and US tech companies have provided the technology that has fueled this repression for decades.

As I said in ICT’s September 10 statement, I am appalled that US companies have made millions in profits selling to China’s security services, who have imposed an increasingly Orwellian system of surveillance and repression in Tibet and Xinjiang, among other areas. Please stand with us and join our call in urging these companies to immediately sever any remaining business relationships with China’s police state.
SIGN THE OPEN LETTER HERE

You can help put a stop to this injustice. Sign our open letter to Silicon Valley leaders calling on them to stop working with the Chinese government and use your voice to help save Tibet.

The Associated Press recently published a major report on Silicon Valley’s role in helping China become the surveillance superpower it is today. Over the last 25 years, companies like Dell, Nvidia, Thermo Fisher, and IBM have sold technology to the Chinese government that enabled them to monitor and control their population like no other government in history.

The 12th Global Assembly & What's Ahead in 2025

Written by World Movement for Democracy on 25 January 2025. Posted in Organizaciones / Campaigns.

Washington DC, Jan.24.– In 2024, the World Movement for Democracy celebrated its 25th anniversary, reflecting on the progress made by this global network of democracy advocates and the ongoing challenges we face. We finished the year with a strong sense of solidarity, expressed through the 12th Global Assembly in Johannesburg, South Africa, that brought together nearly 700 democracy advocates from 100+ countries.

WMD 12th Global Assembly

At the Global Assembly, Maria Ressa, Chairperson of the World Movement’s Steering Committee, reminded us: “You are here because you’re fighting your own battles, and I hope that ... each of us will realize and be reminded that we’re not alone. The values we believe in—tuned to each of our cultures—are worth the battle we’re each going through.”

Our efforts to scale the engagement with our global community of action will be based on years of work that our partners have devoted to:

  • democracy
  • human rights
