Stop farm murders in South Africa

South African Farmers Beset by Land Invasions; Some Say It’s ‘Land Justice’

Written by The Epoch Times on 13 March 2025. Posted in Headlines.

  • The government isn’t seizing farms, but radical fringe groups are encouraging invasions of land that they say was stolen by white settlers.
  • A South African revolutionary song calling for blacks to kill white farmers has fomented racial tensions in the lead-up to elections.
  • Extremist groups are attacking targets with bombs and automatic rifles, and no place is sacrosanct—from churches and bars frequented by white people, to minibus taxis transporting black factory workers.

South Africa extremists against whitesJohannesburg, Mar.12.– On a swath of land on the north coast of South Africa’s lush KwaZulu-Natal Province, endless rows of sugarcane fill the emerald rolling hills, against the backdrop of the azure Indian Ocean.

It looks peaceful, but a battle has raged here for almost 15 years.

Romanian police briefly detained election front-runner Călin Georgescu for questioning

Written by Gerardo E. Martínez-Solanas on 01 March 2025. Posted in Headlines.

The winner of Romania's first round of presidential election, was annulled as a candidate by the Constitutional Court on 6 December 2024

Bucharest, Feb.28 (DPnet).– After his appearance at the General Prosecutor's Office on 26 February, Romanian news channel Antena 3 CNN reported Călin Georgescu is being questioned in connection with the financing of his election campaign last year. Georgescu was indicted on six counts and put under judicial control for 60 days, which allows him to walk free but not to leave the country, according to Romanian media reports.

In a surprising turn of events, Călin Georgescu, a previously unknown far-right populist candidate, emerged victorious in the first round of Romania's presidential election, defeating the incumbent Prime Minister. This unexpected outcome led to a runoff against reformist Elena Lasconi of the Save Romania Union party.

Written by Democracia Participativa on 21 February 2025. Posted in Headlines.

Derechos HumanosGeneva, Feb.21 (DPnet).– The Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy held this week at the Centre International de Conférences Genève (CICG) spotlighted human rights abuses in Iran, Tibet, Hong Kong, Afghanistan, Cuba, Indonesia, Russia, China, and other countries where human rights are violated as part of the state policies. This is only a summary of some of the proceedings:

IRAN: The Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy on Tuesday featured two sessions on Iran highlighting the repression of protesters and the struggle for democracy, including a speech by Iran's exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi titled The Struggle for Freedom in Iran. Another panel highlighted the Islamic Republic’s repression of protesters during the nationwide Woman Life Freedom protests sparked by the death in morality police custody of Mahsa Amini.

TIBET: The opening address was delivered by Garry Kasparov, Vice President of the World Liberty Congress, pro-democracy leader, author, and former world chess champion. Former Tibetan political prisoner Namkyi shared her harrowing experiences of persecution by Chinese authorities. Before delivering her speech, a short video clip of her 2015 protest was shown, providing a compelling visual account of her activism and the severe consequences she faced.

TANZANIA: $150M World Bank project plagued by allegations of violence and abuse

Written by International Consortium of Investigative Journalists on 15 February 2025. Posted in Headlines.

  • The project was supposed to be a boon for wildlife-based tourism in the East African country, but critics say it came “at an enormous cost” to local communities.

In a rare move, a controversial World Bank-funded conservation project in Tanzania worth $150 million has been canceled amid widespread allegations of forced evictions, rapes and extrajudicial killings linked to the project.

The World Bank approved the “Resilient Natural Resource Management for Tourism and Growth” project, also known as REGROW, in 2017, and its purpose was to develop “priority protected areas” to increase tourism to the East African country.
