Finland puts the Bible on Trial! – Real Democracy in peril ...

Päivi Räsänen on trial
Christians' ability to speak biblical truth according to their beliefs is at risk in Finland due to an overly broad hate speech provision in Finnish law. In a stunning case, a Christian member of the Finnish parliament, Päivi Räsänen, has been charged by the Finnish prosecutor general with three counts of "ethnic agitation." Each count relates to Räsänen's respectful expression of her widely-held Christian beliefs.

Paul Coleman, Räsänen's lawyer from Alliance Defending Freedom International said, "The prosecutor began the day by stating that this wasn't a case about Christianity. This wasn't a case about the Bible. This wasn't a case about her beliefs and then immediately started to make it all about the Bible, all about her beliefs, all about Christianity; and I'm not kidding, began the day by reading passages of scripture, reading Old Testament verses." From his vantage point, Coleman said, "There is no question that as you sat in the courtroom today and watched this case unfold, what was on trial is really biblical teaching itself." Protest over the trial of Päivi Räsänen

Respect for human rights is paramount and Governments should not be in the business of determining which religious beliefs are considered offensive, or even criminal. For Räsänen, this case is far bigger than herself. It's about the defense of basic human rights, for the Finnish people and people everywhere. She has stated, "I cannot accept that voicing religious beliefs could mean imprisonment. I will defend my right to confess my faith, so that no one else would be deprived of their right to freedom of religion and speech."               Lea el texto en español ↓

Prisoners Defenders denuncian a Cuba ante instancias internacionales

Written by Prisoners Defenders on 26 January 2022. Posted in Perspectivas / Perspectives.

Just beginning 2022 – Human Rights hot spots all over the World

Written by Gerardo E. Martínez-Solanas on 05 January 2022. Posted in Perspectivas / Perspectives.

  • The ominous shadow that stretches in 2022 over Hong Kong – Russia – Myanmanr – Afghanistan - Belarus - Cuba - etc.

Demanding respect for human rightsHong Kong held its first election since sweeping reforms to the city’s electoral system. Asked to select from a reduced number of pre-vetted and "patriotic" candidates, only 30.2% of voters participated, with pro-Beijing and pro-establishment figures winning 89 of 90 seats. “The boycott from Hong Kong people shows there’s no mandate to this legislature,” declared exiled activist Nathan Law.

Russia liquidated Memorial, the country’s oldest human rights organization and a record keeper for crimes committed under Soviet rule. The decision from a Kremlin-controlled Supreme Court was unsurprising, and “confirms that the people who are sitting in the Kremlin today consider themselves to be the direct successors to Stalin,” according to prominent dissident Vladimir Kara-Murza.

Myanmar saw a nationwide “silent strike” after the military junta massacred 11 villagers. Businesses shut between 10 am and 4 pm on the 10th of December to signal defiance and normally congested roads in the cities of Yangon and Mandalay were deserted. “Today’s silent strike shows how the Burmese people are against the terrorist military,” Ko Bo Kyi commented.

UN rights office urges Viet Nam to release jailed activists

Written by United Nations on 17 December 2021. Posted in Perspectivas / Perspectives.

Authorities in Viet Nam must immediately release four activists jailed this week for spreading anti-State propaganda, the UN human rights office, OHCHR, said on Friday: We call for the immediate release of 4 rights defenders convicted of spreading anti-State propaganda and of all those arbitrarily detained for exercising their rights to freedom of expression & opinion.
