Rape Survivors in Morocco Struggle to Balance Trauma, Social Taboos

Written by Maroc Pess on 12 September 2021. Posted in Perspectivas / Perspectives.

Women protest in Morocco Rabat, Sept.12.– A group of lawyers in charge of defending rape survivors gathered in April 1st for a press conference in Morocco’s capital city of Rabat to highlight the struggle and difficulties that survivors face in their everyday life.

Morocco has witnessed a significant number of rape cases recently, with several perpetrators now behind bars. During the press conference, the lawyers expressed their unconditional support for the sexually abused women and asserted that the Moroccan state and society lack moral and materialistic means for providing sufficient mental and financial support.

Texas Governor Signs Law Allowing Users to Sue Social Media Companies Over Censorship

Written by The Epoch Times on 10 September 2021. Posted in Perspectivas / Perspectives.

Sept. 10.– Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill passed by the GOP-led legislature that is designed Texas Governor signing bill on Sept. 10, 2021to stop social media companies from censoring users based on their political statements or viewpoints.

The measure was introduced earlier this year but was delayed when dozens of Democrat state lawmakers left the state to deny Republicans quorum and block the passage of a voting overhaul bill that Abbott, a Republican, signed several days ago.

House Bill 20, the social media bill, was signed by Abbot on Thursday.

Afghanistan women’s rights are ‘red line’, UN rights chief tells States

Written by UN News on 24 August 2021. Posted in Perspectivas / Perspectives.

UN rights chief Michelle Bachelet led calls on Tuesday for Afghanistan’s new Taliban leaders to respect the rights of all Afghans and warned that the treatment of women and girls is a “fundamental red line” that should not be crossed.

Geneva, Aug.24.– Speaking at the opening of an emergency session at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, a little over a week since the Taliban swept to power, Ms. Bachelet reminded Member States of credible reports of violations of international humanitarian law against civilians in areas under their control.

These reports, she said, make it especially important that the Human Rights Council work in unison to prevent further abuses, and that Member States establish a dedicated mechanism to monitor the fast-evolving situation in Afghanistan and, in particular, the Taliban's implementation of its promises.

CUBA: "El arroz gratis no nos va a callar", aseguran los vecinos de Punta Brava

Written by 14 y Medio on 08 August 2021. Posted in Perspectivas / Perspectives.

IRELAND: Dereliction is eating at our cities and society

Written by Irish Examiner on 04 August 2021. Posted in Perspectivas / Perspectives.

Balancing property owners' rights with the need to provide homes for our growing population. Viviendas en mal estado en Irlanda

Property dereliction is another manifestation of the latitude afforded to property owners in Ireland.

Dublin, Aug. 2.– Even the most indifferent, daydreaming student of our history will, even if by osmosis, understand that it is largely a story of those who own property and those who do not. That is the case in most societies, but it seems an especially sharp and enduring conflict in this country. Whole swathes of our history are focused on mitigating the disproportionate impact property ownership — landlordism, in the vernacular of our revolutions — had on the fate of those of no property.

As in all post-colonial societies, there was an assumption that we would use independence to better balance the ambitions and rights of property owners and others. That being a tenant rather than a mortgage-holding home-owner — eventually — is still almost regarded as a kind of expensive failure shows how uncomfortable much of this society remains with being dependent on a landlord. That institutional investors have taken such a grip in the home market will do little to allay those concerns.
