Zelenskiy orders war's biggest reshuffle to give Ukraine 'new energy'

Written by Yahoo!News on 04 September 2024. Posted in Headlines.

Zelensky reiterated that the Ukrainian incursion into Kursk is an aspect of Ukraine's "victory plan" to end the war on just terms and bring Russia to the negotiating table. The Russian military command was redeploying forces from northern Kharkiv Oblast, the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, and western Zaporizhia Oblast to Kursk Oblast and recently observed indications that the Russian military command is redeploying forces likely intended for future higher priority offensive operations in the Pokrovsk direction to Kursk Oblast.– Institute for the Study of War

KYIV, Sept.4 (Reuters).–President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Wednesday that Ukraine needed "new energy", as he ordered a major government reshuffle at a crucial juncture in the war against Russia.

A total of six ministers, including Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, submitted their resignation and parliament accepted the resignations of four.

They included the resignations of a deputy prime minister in charge of European integration, the strategic industries minister overseeing Ukraine's arms production and two other ministers, the lawmakers said.

Ukrainian forces continue to advance near Sudzha in the Kursk region

Written by Institute for the Study of War on 24 August 2024. Posted in Headlines.

Geolocated footage published on August 22 indicates that Ukrainian forces recently advanced further in southern Russkaya Konopelka (east of Sudzha). A Russian milblogger claimed that Ukrainian forces also advanced north of Martynovka (northeast of Sudzha) along the Sudzha-Sukhodolovka R-200 highway. Russian sources claimed that there are conflicting reports about fighting east of Sudzha near Samoryadovo and Kozyrevka, but that Ukrainian mobile groups may be operating in the area.

Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated on August 22 that the US is gaining "a better understanding" of Ukraine's goals in Kursk Oblast and noted that Ukraine wants to create a buffer zone in Kursk Oblast. Singh stated that the US is still working to determine how the buffer zone fits into Ukraine's strategic objectives and that the US continues to provide materiel to support Ukraine's battlefield needs. Singh clarified that current US restrictions on Ukraine's ability to use US-provided weapons to strike military targets in Russian border areas allows Ukrainian forces to engage in counterfire while defending against Russian attacks across the international border, including in Kursk Oblast.

A look at Taiwan and the Chinese threat

Written by Democracia Participativa on 17 August 2024. Posted in Headlines.

A summary of the most relevant facts and the historical truth.

Historians have shown that popular and official discussion of Taiwan as a part of China, and formal efforts to gain forceful control of Taiwan before WWII by the government of the Republic of China (ROC) and its ruling Nationalist Party, originated in the 1930s and early 1940s, within the context of anti-Japanese sentiment and war.

Under Japanese imperial rule, the island was known as Formosa. However. in more historical terms, a number of scholars have demonstrated the creation of distinctive Taiwanese identities during the years of Japanese rule.

Taiwanese citizens created new identities by drawing on their cultural history, new labor and professional groups, widely disseminated concepts of self-determination and participatory politics, and contemporary cosmopolitanism—far from adhering to the goals of Japanese assimilation strategies. Through a variety of social and cultural actions, including demands for voting rights and an independent legislature for Taiwan inside the Japanese Empire, as well as demands for independence from Japan, they demonstrated their newfound awareness for self-determination.
