Belfast, Sept. 22.– Theresa May's tough talking on the Brexit negotiations has been greeted with both praise and criticism.

The Tory leader's rejection of the EU proposal to keep Northern Ireland in the customs union with checks on goods travelling to Britain was described by Mary Lou McDonald as a "deflection".

The Sinn Féin president said Mrs May's statement had been billed as a major one but proved to be nothing more than "an exercise in tired rhetoric".

The GovLab at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering Publishes the CrowdLaw Manifesto, Collects Signatures in Support of Principles to Spread Democracy through Digital Collaboration

One year after NYU Tandon's Governance Lab convened thought leaders at The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Italy to lay the foundation for CrowdLaw, more than 100 government and citizen groups have already implemented its practices to improve governance through 21st century technology and tools.

 BROOKLYN, N.Y., Sept. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/.– As the United Nations celebrates the International Day of Democracy on September 15 with its theme of "Democracy Under Strain," The Governance Lab (The GovLab) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering will unveil its CrowdLaw Manifesto to strengthen public participation in lawmaking by encouraging citizens to help build, shape, and influence the laws and policies that affect their daily lives.

Among its 12 calls to action to individuals, legislatures, researchers and technology designers, the manifesto encourages the public to demand and institutions to create new mechanisms to harness collective intelligence to improve the quality of lawmaking as well as more research on what works to build a global movement for participatory democracy.

How the nationalist Sweden Democrats could be kingmakers after this weekend's election

Stockholm, Sept. 4.– On September 9, Sweden’s 7.3m voters head to the polls after an Jimmie Åkesson leads the Sweden Democrats since May 2005extraordinary election campaign that has seen yet another radical right wing party dominate the headlines.

The Sweden Democrats have been projected to win up to 25 per cent of the vote, which makes them a potential kingmaker in the ensuing coalition talks.

But there’s a catch. Sweden’s mainstream parties have refused to work with the Sweden Democrats, which has roots in neo-Nazi movements.

Carson City, Aug.29.– Sometimes, fancy new voting machines and layers upon layers of encryption aren’t enough to fend of cybersecurity threats to American elections.

“People can often be the weakest link when it comes to security,” Wayne Thorley, Nevada’s deputy secretary of state over elections, said Wednesday during a presentation on election security to the Nevada Advisory Committee on Participatory Democracy, a panel aimed at boosting civic engagement across the state.

Caspian Sea dispute: everything to know about the landmark deal

Caspian Sea deal 2018 Aktau, Aug.12.– Russia, Iran, and a handful of other countries made a diplomatic breakthrough on Sunday to solve a dispute that has dragged on for decades.

Leaders from five countries—Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan—officially signed an agreement to determine the fate of the Caspian Sea, the world’s largest body of inland water that’s been in dispute since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Until 1991, the maritime area was shared between the Soviet Union and Iran. But when the superpower split into 15 separate countries, questions emerged over who should control the Caspian Sea’s resources, and whether it is actually a sea or a lake.
