President Trump asks FBI to reopen investigation into Brett Kavanaugh's background

Washington DC, Sept.28.– It was another dramatic day on Capitol Hill as Brett Kavanaugh advanced one step closer to taking a seat on the Supreme Court.

During a nail biting hearing Friday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 11-10 to Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., speaks before the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing asking about a further investigationadvance Kavanaugh’s nomination to a full floor vote. 

It all came down to Arizona Senator Jeff Flake, who said he would vote ‘YES’ if the full floor vote could be delayed for a week pending an investigation.

Ukrainian World Congress obtains participatory status as international NGO with the Council of Europe

 Toronto, Sept.22.– The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) obtained participatory status as an international non-governmental organization (INGO) with the Council of Europe as of August 28.

INGOs with participatory status form the Conference of INGOs, which represents civil society at the Council of Europe and works to promote participatory democracy. In addition to holding two annual sessions, it organizes events linked to the priorities of the Council of Europe.

China and Russia warn U.S. of consequences over sanctions

Moscow, Sept.22.– Moscow and Beijing lashed out Friday at Washington’s new anti-Russian sanctions that also target China for the first time, warning the United States could face consequences.

President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman accused Washington of playing unfairly and using new measures to squeeze Moscow out of the global arms market, after the United States slapped sanctions on China for buying Russian warplanes and missiles and threatened to target its other clients.

Belfast, Sept. 22.– Theresa May's tough talking on the Brexit negotiations has been greeted with both praise and criticism.

The Tory leader's rejection of the EU proposal to keep Northern Ireland in the customs union with checks on goods travelling to Britain was described by Mary Lou McDonald as a "deflection".

The Sinn Féin president said Mrs May's statement had been billed as a major one but proved to be nothing more than "an exercise in tired rhetoric".

 BROOKLYN, N.Y., Sept. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/.– As the United Nations celebrates the International Day of Democracy on September 15 with its theme of "Democracy Under Strain," The Governance Lab (The GovLab) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering will unveil its CrowdLaw Manifesto to strengthen public participation in lawmaking by encouraging citizens to help build, shape, and influence the laws and policies that affect their daily lives.

Among its 12 calls to action to individuals, legislatures, researchers and technology designers, the manifesto encourages the public to demand and institutions to create new mechanisms to harness collective intelligence to improve the quality of lawmaking as well as more research on what works to build a global movement for participatory democracy.
