Gina Paola Romero Rodríguez appointed as Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association

On April 5, during the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Gina Romero was appointed as the new UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association (FoAA). Originally from Colombia, Romero is the co-founder and former Executive Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy (REDLAD). 

She has an accomplished career as a democracy activist and is an expert on civic participation, political affairs, youth political engagement, and gender issues. Participatory Democracy Cultural Initiative congratulates Romero, former steering committee member of the World Movement for Democracy, for being appointed as the new UNSR on FoAA, an important mandate to defend and protect civic space and fundamental freedoms.
