Simultaneously, Yemen's internationally recognized government is urgently appealing to world leaders for critical support in their fight against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Having maintained control over Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and much of the northern region for over a decade, the Houthis have escalated their aggression this month, capturing the vital port city of Mokha and strategic islands in the Red Sea.
