Gustavo Petro asked the Minister of Defense to coordinate the Colombian and Venezuelan military forces: "Without fear."

Bogota, Oct. 2.– During the Council of Ministers meeting on September 29, 2025, President Gustavo Petro asked Defense Minister Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez to launch the coordination of the Colombian and Venezuelan military forces, which are under the command of dictator Nicolás Maduro.

"Minister of Defense, without fear, we must coordinate the intelligence and action of the Venezuelan Military Forces and our own. It's complicated, but it's essential for this to become even better," said the head of state at the meeting with his cabinet.

The president asserted that part of the strategy being implemented between the public forces of both countries focuses on assigning Colombian assets to combat Colombian armed groups in Venezuelan territory, where they are hiding. He explained that although they are not necessarily the heads of drug trafficking businesses operating in Colombia, they are part of the network and are responsible for delivering cocaine and other illicit substances for illicit sale.
