Dharamshala, June 13 (DPnet).– On July 6, Tenzin Gyatso, the Dalai Lama, will celebrate his 90th birthday. He is the fourteenth in a six-century series of Tibetan god-popes.  He has been the most politically active spiritual leader in the postwar world, together with Pope John Paul II, demonstrating that men of God can be excellent politicians without sacrificing their spirituality.

The Dalai Lama has faced China, a vicious and heartless enemy, for almost 75 years with courage, endurance, and patience. However, recent incidents have revealed that those celebrating the Dalai Lama's birthday in Tibet may face arbitrary detention, lengthy prison sentences, torture, and even being shot and killed. The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) said that their celebration takes place under a widespread mood of terror.

International human rights law has been seriously violated by the Chinese government's ongoing efforts to discredit the Dalai Lama and stop people from expressing their respect for him in public.  'Celebrating in Fear: China's Crackdown on Dalai Lama Birthday Tributes in Tibet,' a recent ICT report, emphasizes the dangers Tibetans face in Tibet and calls on the international community, including national governments, parliaments, civil society organizations, and United Nations bodies, to demand that China stop its oppressive practices.

Kyiv, June 2 (DPnet).– Ukraine struck a heavy blow this Sunday, June 1st, against five Russian air bases in a simultaneous operation that has been recorded as evidence of the destruction of 41 Russian A-50, Tu-95, and Tu-22 M3 strategic bombers. The Tu-95 and Tu-22 M3 are armed with eight cruise missiles each that can carry nuclear weapons.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the assault "brilliant" and "perfectly prepared." He said Ukraine used 117 drones to eliminate more than a third of Russia's cruise missile-carrying aircraft.

The Russian Ministry of Defense called the operation a "terrorist attack". It confirmed in a statement published by Russian state news agencies that the airfields had been attacked by drones in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions.

While details about his personality have not been widely disclosed, it is known that Prevost is recognized for his affable character, moderate approach, and dedication to pastoral service.

His career reflects a commitment to the formation of new priests and a sensitivity toward the communities he has served. He is expected to promote a synodal Church and, while committed to continuing the work of Francis, maintains a balanced doctrinal stance, avoiding extremes, seeking consensus among different currents within the Church, and maintaining a strong pastoral orientation and sensitivity to the social realities of Latin America.

In November 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Chiclayo, Peru, elevating him to the dignity of bishop and assigning him the titular diocese of Sufar. In March 2018, he became Second Vice President of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference. Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Clergy in 2019 and a member of the Congregation for Bishops in 2020.
