New York, May 5.─ The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) announced on Friday the recipients of the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent.

The 2013 laureates are: Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat, North Korean democracy activist Park Sang Hak, and Cuban civil society group the Ladies in White – represented by their leader Berta Soler. They will be honored at a ceremony during the 2013 Oslo Freedom Forum in Norway on May 15.

An initiative of New York-based HRF, the Havel Prize for Creative Dissent was founded with the enthusiastic endorsement of Dagmar Havlová, widow of the late poet, playwright, and statesman Václav Havel. The inaugural laureates were Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, Saudi women's rights advocate Manal al-Sharif, and Burmese opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) Asks OAS to Promote Dialogue  

NEW YORK, Apr.18.─ – The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) calls on both incumbent and opposition leaders in Venezuela to resolve the current post-electoral political crisis peacefully and through dialogue. HRF also condemns the physical assault on opposition congressmen Julio Borges and William Davila at the National Assembly, as well as statements made by president-elect Nicolás Maduro, Attorney General Luisa Ortega Diaz, and the president of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice, Luisa Estella Morales, in which they held opposition leaders, including Henrique Capriles, responsible for acts of vandalism and political violence that occurred on the night of Monday, April 15.
 

"Even though both the incumbents and the opposition share a mutual responsibility to reach a peaceful resolution to this crisis, this responsibility falls heavier on the shoulders of Nicolas Maduro, Diosdado Cabello, and the leadership of the PSUV, considering that they control all government institutions—from the police and the armed forces, to the National Assembly, the Office of the Attorney General, the Supreme Court, and the Electoral Council itself," said Thor Halvorssen, president of HRF.

 Tegucigalpa, Abr. 8.─ Desconocidos atentaron esta mañana contra la periodista Fidelina Sandoval del canal de televisión Globo TV, informaron fuentes oficiales.

Datos preliminares indican que sujetos que se transportaban en un vehículo dispararon contra la comunicadora que se encontraba en la parte frontal del edificio donde labora en el bulevar Morazán.

Según se informó, para fortuna de la periodista ninguno de los disparos logró herirla.

 Mexico DF/Tegucigalpa, Abr. 5.─ Un total de 66 hondureños menores de edad fueron asegurados por autoridades del Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM), mientras eran trasladados por traficantes de personas con rumbo a Estados Unidos.

Los 66 menores con edades entre los cuatro y 17 años, fueron asegurados por autoridades del INM en distintos operativos en el territorio azteca.
