After Iran's attack on Israel last week, tensions in the Middle East are the highest they have been in decades. How the United States responds to Iran's attack is massively significant -- politically, militarily, and even spiritually.
Family Research Council Action (FRC Action) has been vocal in our support for Israel.
Thanks to our supporters, we were able to collect tens of thousands of signatures and deliver them to Congress, urging them to withhold funding from United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). UNRWA's legitimacy as a relief agency was critically compromised when it was discovered that many of its employees either directly supported the October 7 attacks on Israel or have close ties to Hamas. Thankfully, Congress listened and suspended funding for UNRWA until 2025.
Also, when Iran attacked Israel, our chairman, Tony Perkins, sent out an emergency alert urging prayer for Israel.
The United States must stand strong by our ally Israel during its fight for existence. I was grateful to hear that our nation's military assisted in shooting down some of Iran's drones before they hit Israel. Of the 100 ballistic missiles, 30 cruise missiles, and more than 150 explosive drones, 99 percent were intercepted. Praise God!
In critical moments like these, I want to see our armed services in top shape. We need a lethal, combat-ready military that can respond in defense of our country and our allies. Instead, we are currently seeing standards being relaxed, recruitment goals failing to be met, and leftist ideology being prioritized in our military academies and among the ranks of our fighting men and women.
President Biden's politicization of the military is apparent. For example, the Biden-era Department of Defense has requested over $100 million to teach "diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility" (DEIA). And U.S. Space Force Col. Bree Fram, a biological male who identifies as a woman, recently gave a talk at the U.S. Air Force Academy about why the inclusion of LGBT matters to the military's mission accomplishment. However, how any of this improves the readiness and lethality of our armed forces, I do not know.
While our country was able to intercept some of the missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles fired from Iran toward Israel, President Biden has not given Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reason to believe the United States will be a reliable ally. The President has hemmed and hawed in his support for Israel, seemingly more concerned about his reelection prospects than he is about protecting our ally. He was heard after the State of the Union address saying Netanyahu needed to have a "come to Jesus meeting," insinuating he would dictate to Israel how best to defend itself. Later, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer dared to call for elections to replace Netanyahu and his government during the war. These are just a couple of examples of how our nation's leaders vacillate between supporting and not supporting Israel.
Our allies and the American people are counting on our military to be mission-ready, not politically indoctrinated. Our military leaders and resources should be focused on enabling our fighting force to defend the nation and uphold the Constitution, not push left-wing ideology on our military service members.
As FRC Action chairman Tony Perkins has stated, this is a defining moment for our country. Our actions now will go down in history. Will the United States stand with Israel? Or will the Biden administration turn away from our ally when they need us most?
Pray for our leaders, that they would be righteous and stand with Israel.
The Bible says those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who dishonor Israel will be cursed. How can the United States bless Israel? One major way is by ensuring we focus on military readiness to stand with our ally during its greatest time of need. The free world looks to the United States for leadership. If we fail to stand with Israel, we fail our own nation and the rest of the free world.
Israel is right now fighting for its survival, and now that Iran has attacked Israel directly, they need our prayers and support more than ever. While we live in times of great uncertainty, followers of Christ are to stand firm for biblical truth.
