Bucharest, Feb.28 (DPnet).– After his appearance at the General Prosecutor's Office on 
26 February, Romanian news channel Antena 3 CNN reported Călin Georgescu is being questioned in connection with the financing of his election campaign last year. Georgescu was indicted on six counts and put under judicial control for 60 days, which allows him to walk free but not to leave the country, according to Romanian media reports.
In a surprising turn of events, Călin Georgescu, a previously unknown far-right populist candidate, emerged victorious in the first round of Romania's presidential election, defeating the incumbent Prime Minister. This unexpected outcome led to a runoff against reformist Elena Lasconi of the Save Romania Union party.
