The Principle of Solidarity is, in my humble opinion, the cornerstone of Catholic Social Doctrine, since besides its role as a fundamental social virtue it also places itself in the sphere of Justice.
Justice –and the institutions in charge of rendering it- have intensely occupied us in the US for the last couple of months, and it is easy to see why. At the federal level of a politico-institutional system like the one we have in the United States, he who controls the appointment of the members of the Judiciary is likely to set the political agenda that will rule over our society for years to come.
Solidarity is intrinsically tied to the Common Good, which is why we chose to highlight it as the second of the Principles of the Catholic Social Doctrine, having presented you with the Common Good first.
