US president called historic agreement 'one of the worst deals I've ever seen'
Washington DC, May 8 (DP.net).– In a relatively short speech this Tuesday afternoon, President Trump announced US withdrawal from Iran's deal.
Iran leader warned it could go ahead with nuclear development. President Hassan Rouhani made the statement immediately after President Donald Trump said he was pulling the U.S. out of the nuclear deal.
Rouhani spoke live on Iranian state television. He says he will be sending Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to countries remaining in the accord.
The French president’s office spearheaded the reaction in Europe by saying that France, Britain and Germany “regret” U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to leave the Iranian nuclear accord, calling it a threat to global efforts to contain nuclear weapons.
President Trump started his speech this Tuesday afternoon asserting his past views on this issue: "The Iranian regime is the leading state sponsor of terror. It exports dangerous missiles, fuels conflicts across the Middle East, and supports terrorist proxies and militias, such as Hezbollah, Hamas, the Taliban, and al-Qaeda."
He then elaborated on Iranian activities in support of terrorism all over the World and about several shortcomings of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) elaborated by the previous US administration in 2015 regarding Iran's nuclear program.
President Trump stressed the fact that "after the sanctions were lifted, the dictatorship used its new funds to build nuclear capable missiles", underlining his conviction that "if I allow this deal to stand, there would soon be a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. Everyone would want their weapons ready by the time Iran had theirs."
The President expressed as well his conviction that the JCPOA was failing to be effective to halt Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions, a program that could be reactivated in a short period of time once their long-range missile programs succeeds to provide the required vectors for those weapons.
"Therefore, I am announcing today that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal. In a few moments, I will sign a presidential memorandum to begin reinstating US nuclear sanctions on the Iranian regime. We will be instituting at the highest level of economic sanction, any country that helps Iran in its quest for nuclear weapons could also be strongly sanctioned by the United States (...) America will not be held hostage to nuclear blackmail. Will not allow American cities to be subject to destruction. And we will not allow Iran to gain access to the most deadly weapons on earth", concluded the US President.
