A new resolution from the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) comdemns countries that deliberately disrupt the internet access of their citizens

United Nations, July 6 (DP.net).─ The UNHRC approved today a resolution for the “promotion, protection, and enjoyment of human rights on the internet” which condemns any country that intentionally disrupts the internet access of its citizens.

The resolution stresses that “the same rights that people have offline must also be protected online” particularly with regards to the freedom of expression already protected by articles 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Yo diría que, en esta era digital, nada acaba de sustituir a nada, pero todos tenemos que cambiar para no ser sustituidos

Internet ha cambiado el mundo..., ¿verdad?

Sí, claro.
¡Pues, no! En realidad, la era digital aún no ha cambiado nada de verdad importante. Ha transformado el modo en que consumimos música, noticias, libros: contenidos; pero no cómo fabricamos cosas y casas y coches y aviones... Eso sigue igual.

¿Por qué aún se fabrica sin internet?
Los humanos ya estamos hiperconectados en la red, pero nos faltaba capacidad de gestión de datos para hacer hablar a las cosas entre ellas en fábricas, cocinas, hospitales... Hoy la tenemos.

Por ejemplo.
En el condado de Cork, en Irlanda, un programa de internet de las cosas logra que, cuando la ambulancia llega a buscarte, ya tenga tu historial, enviado por la base condal de datos.

Jun.17.─ Facebook is the undisputed leader among social networks. The company has a massive user base of more than 1.4 billion average monthly users, and it continues growing at an impressive speed considering the size of the platform. In addition to this leadership position in well established markets, Facebook is now even gaining ground in corners of the world where most consumers don’t even have access to good enough Internet connections.

The incredibly expanding social network

As of the first quarter of 2015, Facebook has 1.44 billion monthly active accounts, a year-over-year increase of 13% versus the same quarter in 2014. Daily active users stand at 936 million, growing 17% year over year during the last quarter. The fact that daily users are growing at a faster rate than monthly ones is a big positive for Facebook, as it reflects increasing engagement.

Campaign urges the European parliament to save EU net neutrality.

Following what is widely regarded as a victory for strong net neutrality in the US, the battle to maintain a level playing-field online has now moved to the European Union, with the relaunch today of the campaign site "Save the Internet: Defend Net Neutrality in Europe." Its aim is to head off an attempt by a majority of the 28 EU Member States in the Council of the European Union to derail earlier proposals to enshrine net neutrality in European law, as Ars reported last month.

The EU's net neutrality bill began as a 2013 proposal from the European Commission. It contained a number of major loopholes. In particular, it would have allowed "specialized services" that had privileged access to the Internet—and thus broke net neutrality. The proposal also explicitly allowed the discriminatory blocking of websites, applications, and content, a clear threat to freedom of expression in Europe.
