May 15.– In the Spring of 1775, a handful of farmers and tradesmen stood their ground against the greatest military power on Earth. They didn't know how the story would end. They only knew what was worth fighting for.

That moment –the "shot heard round the world"– set in motion a chain of events that changed history and gave birth to the greatest experiment in self-government the world has ever known: The United States of America.

That story is being told again –clearly and faithfully– through The Story of America, a new free video series commemorating the 250th Anniversary of American independence.

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump recorded a message for The Story of America, recognizing the importance of retelling "one of the greatest tales in the history of mankind."

The series was produced in partnership with the White House Salute to America Task Force and filmed in the historic Indian Treaty Room of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

In two and a half centuries, the Spirit of 1776 has carried the American people to extraordinary heights.

Our Founding Fathers defeated the greatest army in the world. They tamed a vast frontier.

Generations later, Americans broke free of Earth itself and walked on the moon. Each achievement began with citizens who understood what was at stake – and were willing to act.

But the next chapter of this great story is not yet written.
