Facing the US mid-term elections in 2026, the DNC chose not to release its report on the 2024 election

Democrats face over a dozen contested primaries across the country exposing deep ideological divisions within their ranks. Democrats will undergo grueling intraparty battles across the country, from purple seats with retiring incumbents to battleground districts where they hope to go on the offense. All 435 districts in the U.S. House of Representatives and 33 seats in the U.S. Senate are up for election. Republicans have a 219-213 congressional majority.

Democratic National Committee pulls plug on its ‘autopsy' of its 2024 election loss

Washington DC, Dec.19 (DPnet).– This week, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) chose not to release its report on the 2024 election, which was based on hundreds of interviews conducted across all 50 states. The DNC is focused on building on this year’s momentum and preparing for the midterm elections in 2026. However, Democratic officials and strategists criticized the DNC on Thursday for withholding its analysis of the party's loss in the 2024 presidential election, despite having repeatedly promised to publish it.

Why it matters: Several Democrats, including many who are advising potential 2028 presidential candidates, believe that burying the report unfairly benefits former Vice President Harris if she decides to run again. However, the Committee has chosen not to release a review of its 2024 election loss, stating that it would be a “distraction” from the party's "core mission" of moving forward and regaining a congressional majority.

The party has been working on a so-called autopsy of 2024 since Kamala Harris lost the presidential election to Donald Trump. The contents of the report have been the subject of speculation for months. The New York Times reported in July that the results of the post-election review were “expected to avoid the questions of whether former President Joseph R Biden Jr should have run for re-election in the first place, whether he should have exited the race earlier than he did and whether former vice-president Kamala Harris was the right choice to replace him, according to the people briefed on the process so far.”

Responding to the news, Republican National Committee (RNC) national press secretary Kiersten Pels argued in a statement that "Voters don’t need an autopsy of Democrats’ 2024 failures to understand why their party is collapsing. Ken Martin still can’t connect the dots: voters and donors are fleeing because Democrats pour millions into radical candidates who hate this country. Now they’re literally taking out loans to prop up a broken operation."
