What is happening to the Democratic Party of the United States?

It is very sad to see how the Democratic Party of the United States is opting for an increasingly anti-Catholic trend, extending as well to an anti-Christian policy in general.

Despite the fact that the Democratic Party in the Southern States openly opted for racism up to the 1950s and 1960s, soon many of its leaders dedicated themselves to the task of remedying this anomaly and managed to qualify themselves in subsequent decades as the civil rights champions who attracted a figure as prestigious as Martin Luther King to that party, among others equally respectable.

Nevertheless, this fame does not correspond nowadays to the anti-religious attitude that has been growing since the beginning of this century. In more recent years we are looking with concern at the growing tide seeking to drown out freedom of religion in the United States. Let's look at some unfortunate examples since 2012:

♦ In spite that religion or faith is not an issue to select judicial candidates, Democrat Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois asked nominee for federal judge Amy Barrett: "Do you consider yourself an Orthodox Catholic?". Not happy with that, at the same Senate hearing, Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein told the nominee for federal judge that: "The dogma lives loudly within you!". On these grounds they tried to reject him.

♦ The Obama Administration sued Little Sisters of the Poor Catholic nuns for their refusal to purchase health insurance that covers contraception and abortion, which would mean making apostasy of their religious convictions if accepted. They were freed to follow their conscience thanks to a Supreme Court ruling stating that no Christian can be forced to accept any means or systems engaged in activities, such as abortion, that violate the moral teachings of their faith.

♦ During the Obama Administration, the Inspector General of the IRS purposely targeted with repeated punishing audits more than 500 Catholic and other Christian non-for-profit organizations who disagreed with the government then in power because of its assault on traditional values. As a result, some of them lost their non-for-profit exemption and had to fight hard and long in the legal system to get it back.

♦ When Hillary Clinton was running for President, she proclaimed in a speech that "deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs, and structural biases have to stop". In addition, she promised to use the full force of government, including the Justice Department and the IRS, to punish those believing in the traditional definition of marriage and those who believe in the right-to-life. "Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will", se said, to crush those who subscribe to these Christian moral beliefs.

♦ More recently, in a vote in the US Senate, every Democrat Senator, except three, voted against legislation to protect the lives of healthy babies who accidentally were born alive after a botched abortion.

♦ Democrat senators Mazie Hirono and Kamala Harris verbally and repeatedly assailed federal judicial nominee Brian Buescher because of his participation in the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organizacion engaged in charitable causes and in helping others.

♦ The Chairman of the National Democratic Committee, Tom Perez, declared recently that pro-life Ameericans are no longer welcome in the Democratic Party. Furthermore, Democrat Governor of New York State, Andrew Cuomo, priased him, and also said there is no place for pro-life voters in New York state anymore.

♦ During Judge Brett Kavanaugh's hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee, he was repeatedly accosted with questions about his religious beliefs in spite of his previous unblemished record in this regard. Questions such as: "Why did you use the term abortion-induced drugs? Are you compromised because of your religious beliefs?", or "Does the “history and tradition” of the United States, according to your religious beliefs, include a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate a pregnancy?", etc., etc.

These are just a few instances of what is happening in the Democratic Party. However, this trend reflects neither the attitude nor the democratic convictions of the majority of supporters of that prestigious Party, but of the manipulations of the Party leaders who are fostering this intolerance, shrewdly diverting attention from these actions through an absurd campaign against President Trump, supposedly aimed at impeaching him, but being in reality the foundation of a speculative propaganda strategy with which they hope to drag enough voters in their favor for the 2020 elections.
