We encourage the review of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB) to promptly result in a more efficient, effective OCB with a greater impact on Cubans.
In Cuba, where the dictatorship persecutes all forms of free expression and access to information, objective journalism to and from the Island is an essential pillar to pierce the veil of lies and reach Cuban homes with the facts and proposals that the regime so desperately tries to hide. For almost 40 years, Radio Martí has been a constant voice to break the isolation imposed on dissidents, activists, and opposition members, also transmitting the message of those who struggle from the ground.
Our organizations, signatories of the Agreement for Democracy, join to express our deep gratitude to the people and the government of the United States, whose resources have sustained Radio Martí's signal, as well as to the journalists, technicians, and all the professionals who, from exile, have tirelessly informed Cubans on the Island. Their work has been a bridge of connection and resistance for our cause.
We encourage the review of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB) to promptly result in a more efficient, effective OCB with a greater impact on Cubans. Communications to Cuba require creative and innovative solutions to promote freedom and democracy by providing objective news programs and an uncensored connection as soon as possible.
A proactive stance must recognize and empower the opposition and civic organizations that are united in an Agreement for Democracy. As we proposed in our memorandum to the Administration, we invite you to decisively support the effort for democratic change demanded by the citizenry so that Cubans can decide our future.
The liberation of Cuba is not only our longing but is aligned with the best interests of the United States and the rest of the democracies of the West; it is essential for freedom, peace, and security in the hemisphere.
