CHARLIE KIRK – Insecurity-Filled Critics Slander the Dead

I read the excellent post that you have published on another page of this digital magazine, titled in Spanish "CHARLIE KIRK – La Misión del Guerrero Espiritual" and I think it's appropriate to provide another perspective in English on the same topic. In these trouble times, I take great comfort in the fact that I live in a community of hardworking , honest, God-fearing Christian families in Ohio who, while they may not be perfect, strive to treat others as they themselves wish to be treated. Celebrating the brutal murder of a fellow American, whether or not they agree on every particular, simply wouldn’t occur among most of my neighbors. Nor would they delight in spreading lies and slander about anyone no loger in a position to defend himself.
Imagine my surprise, mere days after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, to read not one but two essays on the opinion page of my local paper, both smearing and misquoting Kirk, before his lifeless body was even laid to rest. Honestly, I’m not a devotee of Kirk, but what little I know of him doesn’t suggest that he is anything resembling the character assassination represented by these two essays.
By now, there’s not a pundit or commentator who hasn’t expressed an opinion about Kirk’s horrific killing, which has dominated the headlines. All too many comments and stories seem to focus on the exact same out-of-context quotes, name-calling, and fabricated outright lies. For instance, both “contributing columnists” in my local paper present the same excerpted quotes from Kirk as evidence of his supposed racism, sexism, and bigotry. A simple web search for Kirk’s exact, complete statements would, in minutes, have debunked these slanderous misrepresentations of Kirk’s ideas.
I have to wonder where the hatred exhibited by Kirk’s critics comes from. Why are they so threatened by his fervent Christian beliefs and logical, simply expressed arguments? Could it be simple mental laziness that would incite them to smear and slander him rather than defend their own ideas logically and persuasively? Would they rather kill him than be forced to explain and justify their own convictions and beliefs? It seems to me to exhibit massive insecurity on their part.
This is a wake-up call to every patriotic, upstanding, hardworking, God-fearing American.
What we are facing is tyranny, violence, and mayhem. John Adams famously said: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” We need to understand and appreciate the threat we’re facing, and turn the tide. Our little corner of the world won’t be safe forever.
