CROATIA: ANOTHER FIVE-YEAR MANDATE FOR MESIC PDF Print E-mail

ZAGREB, January 17 (FENA/Hina).– Stjepan Mesic [was electo to a] second presidential mandate ...  as leader of Croatia.

Mesic, the candidate of eight political parties, received the votes of 66 percent of the voters (approx. 1.5 million KM), while Jadranka Kosor, the candidate of HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union), received 34 percent (approx. 750 thousand votes), the President of DIP, Ivica Crnic, told a press conference held after midnight.  There was little to distinguish the two finalists in terms of policy: Both share the goals of joining NATO and the European Union.  A little over 51 percent of the voters, i.e. 2.3 million of the total of 4.4 million voters.
