Zeynab Jalalian, age 27, is in danger of execution in Iran, according to activist group Change for Equality. In January 2009 the Kermanshah Revolutionary Court found Jalalian, a Kurdish political prisoner, guilty of "moharebeh," the crime of "defiance of God" or of the state, for being a part of the Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK, which is banned in Iran) and sentenced her to death. The Iranian Supreme Court approved the sentence on November 26 of that year. The sentence has now reportedly reached the implementation stage and her attorney, Khalil Bahramian, whose attempts to represent her were denied by the courts, reported on June 27 that Jalalian could be executed in only a matter of hours or days.
Prior to her sentencing in January 2009, Jalalian spent eight months in a Ministry of Intelligence detention facility. At her trial, she was reportedly denied the right to an attorney, and she said the trial itself only lasted a few minutes, according to change for Equality. She was then jailed in Kermanshah prison, in Western Iran until March 2010, when she was moved to an unknown location for several weeks before being transferred to her current location in Section 209 of Evin Prison in Tehran.
